What is an IDP?

We’ve heard a lot about the “IDP”s in Kenya — Internally Displaced Persons.  It’s a pretty antiseptic term for the half a million people who’ve been forced to leave their homes and homelands to stay safe, during the weeks of post-election violence.  But the next time you read “IDP”, don’t think statistics, think of these kids:

Gladys, James, Caroline, Nicholas and Jane are a few of the new students — IDPs — taken in at Tumaini. They’ve all been relocated (another too-kind word) because of the violence.  I don’t know their full stories yet.  What I do know is that they are no longer homeless, no longer without a family, no longer without hope.  Praise God for Tumaini, and for Riamukurwe Parish, for loving these little ones as their own.  Huruma has also taken in a significant number of diplaced children— about 20, or a 50% increase in their student body.  I love to think of the new kitchen and dining hall filled with kids at meal time!  God’s perfect timing for Meadows’ gift.

**I am looking for PRAYER PARTNERS for the children above — someone to pray regularly for their physical and spiritual well-being, and who will keep in touch with an occasional letter.  Team members are welcome to take another partner, or we can ask church members -- a great way for them to connect with Tumaini.  If you’re interested, email me:  abigail@abigailmcconnell.com

Finally, praise God for the breakthrough yesterday.  Kenyans are celebrating this peace deal — so far the reaction from the people has been, from what I’ve read, one of optimism and relief.  Pray that the reconciliation continues, and forgiveness comes...

See you Sunday at 2.

Yours in Christ,
Abigail
